Tis the season! The elves are hard at work preparing our Weihnacht’s Stollen. This hand-crafted creation is THE traditional German treat filled with delicious fruits, nuts and spices, and covered with powdered sugar.

Our stollen is Dresdner-style, and is truly one of our signature items of the year.

We offer our large stollen, beautifully wrapped and packed in a gift box, for shipping anywhere in the continental US. We also ship bulk stollen orders, called ‘plain wrap’.  And of course you can also order for pickup in the Bakery in Durham or the Bake Shop in Chapel Hill.

The Bakery will have plenty of lovely Holiday specialties for your table. Check out the christmas bakery menu. To ensure availability, please place your orders by 4pm on Friday 12/21. After the deadline, items will be available on a first come-first served basis.

 

 

We are celebrating our 20th Anniversary the week of November 13-18, 2018 with specials in the Café & Biergarten and Bakery. Enjoy specially- priced wine, beer and cocktails as well as a free gift during weekend dinner service in Durham and festive profiteroles and mini cakes throughout the week in the bakery in both Durham and Chapel Hill. These festivities are timed to the exact week we opened in November 1998. Here’s what we have in store for you!

 

 

 

Tuesday – Saturday: $1 Oysters (Durham dinner only)

Tuesday – Thursday: Beer & Wine Specials (Durham only)

• $5 Half Liter Rotating German Draft Special
• Riesling Special by the glass – Donnhoff Hermannshohle Riesling GG, Nahe Germany. This is a ‘Grosses Gewächs’ style Riesling, considered to be the driest of all Riesling styles, and must be harvested from specifically designated vineyard sites, graded to be the best of the best. Vines must low-yield, grapes must come to full maturity on the vine, and all grapes must be hand harvested.

Tuesday – Saturday: Black Forest Cocktail $7 (Durham only)
The Black Forest Cocktail (Kraken Black Spiced Rum, Madeira, Luxardo, Mole Bitters, and a brandied cherry) only $7!

Friday + Saturday: Free Gift at Dinner (Durham only)
All diners during weekend dinner hours will receive a small gift from Guglhupf at the conclusion of their meal.

Saturday + Sunday: Brunch Drink Specials $6 (Durham only)
Enjoy Guglhupf’s brand new Beetmosa (mimosa with Natalie’s Beet-Orange juice), Fuzzy Yellow + We Drink it at Noon (hot toddies), and the Comfortably Numb (hot espresso cocktail) for $6.

Our Bakery will be filled with plenty of seasonal specialties for your Thanksgiving table.. from our beloved brioche rolls with cranberries and orange peel to exquisite desserts such as our pumpkin cheesecake, chocolate pecan tart, apple strudl and more!

If you have your heart set on a specific dessert or bread, you’ll want to pre-order to ensure availability. If you prefer to browse in the bakery, the items will be available on a first come, first serve basis after the order deadline. Please join us as we celebrate Fall with our 7th annual Mushroom & Foraging Wine Dinner.

Thomas Meunier, wine importer of Authentique Vin, will be our host as we explore six wines he selected for this special evening. Meunier’s six years as assistant to winemaker Frederic Mabileau in Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil gave him an appreciation and deep respect for wines made by farmers as an expression of place. His portfolio reflects that respect with its focus on estates who farm organic or biodynamic.

Executive Chef Dave Alworth and Sous Chef Justin Pfau have created a menu around these wines, highlighting the bounty of Autumn with mushrooms, game, foraged berries and other earthy, woodland delights.

With our new bar as the focal point connecting the patio with the indoor dining area, we are shifting our focus to a more casual ‘Biergarten’ style of dining at Guglhupf during evening hours. Read more about it in this N&O article.

The beverage menu features 12 taps, our signature craft cocktails, and an expanded selection of scotch, whiskey and locally distilled spirits. Our wine list continues its exploration of Germany and Austria, rounded out with remarkable small-producers from around the globe.

Our expanded dinner menu includes Brotzeit (lit. trans. “Bread time”), which is a traditional German evening dining style emphasizing breads, charcuterie, cheeses, smoked and marinated fish, and savory spreads. Brotzeit will be available from 3pm on, and flow into the dinner menu.

Overall, you’ll find even more options to mix and match … a plethora of tasting plates perfect for sharing, our popular classics, and delectable desserts… all perfectly suited for enjoying the outdoor patio biergarten-style, or dining at a cozy table inside.

Summertime means Beer Dinner time!

Join us along with Raleigh’s super popular Trophy Brewery on Wednesday July 25th for our annual ‘The Butcher, The Baker, and the Beer Maker‘ Beer Dinner.

Trophy’s Chris Mincey will be on hand to guide you through the refreshing and diverse offering of six beers, creatively paired with five courses  centered around whole hog butchery.

This is going to be a fun evening of purposeful overindulging- get your snout on!
