Welcome to Durham’s beloved breakfast and brunch destination, where German traditions meet Southern hospitality. Our sun-filled garden patio and architectural space create the perfect setting for everything from leisurely weekend brunches to weekday breakfast meetings. We blend local, seasonal ingredients with Swabian German heritage for a uniquely Durham dining experience.
Chef Dave Alworth took charge of the Guglhupf kitchen in 2008, bringing with him a passion for blending traditional German techniques with North Carolina’s vibrant local flavors. A veteran executive chef of some of the area’s finest restaurants, he’s spent over two decades building strong relationships with Triangle farmers, cheese makers, and fishmongers from the coast. These partnerships, combined with his deep respect for German cuisine, ensure every dish celebrates both our heritage and local ingredients.
When not crafting seasonal menus or perfecting house-made specialties, Chef enjoys spending time with his family, international travel, playing bass in local bands, and collecting rare books. His dedication to quality and community has helped establish Guglhupf as one of Durham’s most beloved dining destinations, earning numerous accolades including our reputation as the city’s premier brunch spot.
Our menus change frequently. While we try our best to keep them updated, differences may occur.
