Dave Lewis, a Durham-based Jazz Guitarist and Luthier, got his start playing Jazz guitar studying under local guitarist Kevin Van Sant, and later in the Adult Jazz combo classes at Durham’s Sharp 9 Jazz workshop. He hasn’t missed an Adult Combo session in 8 years, and is also one of the volunteers during their Jazz shows.
Dave co-founded the local Jazz quintet Dex and the Half-tones 5 years ago, and more recently spun up the Jazz quartet Nico’s Dream.
His latest projects include a Jazz trio with Greg Carney on bass and Mark Hill on drums, as well as a duo with pianist Ramon Brito.
Ramon Brito has been working as a pianist and educator for over 18 years. Trained in classical piano, Brito has spent most of his professional musical career teaching piano at Elon University, running a home piano studio, and doing extensive collaborative work with choral groups and chamber musicians. Ramon’s journey into the world of jazz began in the summer of 2023 when he decided to join one of the combo classes at Durham Jazz Workshop. He now plans to go deeper into jazz studies in hopes of making it part of his teaching and performing career.
